American Airlines Aircraft Catches Fire in Hong Kong
An American Airlines Boeing 777-300 caught fire when crew were loading cargo onto the aircraft in Hong Kong earlier today. Here’s a video of the incident captured from the terminal:
There were no passengers onboard the aircraft when the fire broke out. Firefighters quickly put out the fire but the damage to the aircraft is still unknown. American has canceled the Los Angeles bound flight while they determine the extent of the damage.
The airline says the fire was caused by an external piece of loading equipment suffering a mechanical issue. The mechanical issue caused one of the pallets being loaded onto the plane to catch fire. The equipment operator is being treated for minor injuries. Other than that, no one was hurt. It a good thing this was contained before spreading to other parts of the aircraft. Hopefully they’ll have the plane fixed up soon.
