American Airlines will Allow Carry-On Bags in Basic Economy
American Airlines first launched Basic Economy fares in February 2017. Basic Economy is an Economy Class seat with a series of restrictions. It’s the airline’s cheapest way to fly but often not worth the headache, in my opinion. One of American’s biggest pain points was its no-carryon bag policy for domestic Basic Economy flights.
That’s changing this fall. All tickets purchased or flown after September 5, 2018 will now allow one free carry-on item. This matches Delta’s existing Basic Economy policy. It’s great to see an airline make a customer friendly change for once and I’m glad the no carry-on experiment failed 🙂
