American and WestJet are Ending their Partnership in 2018
WestJet is a Canadian airline which partnered with both Delta and American to route flyers into Canada. Delta announced a new joint venture with WestJet just a week ago. This will give Delta flyers reciprocal frequent flyer benefits and wider access to WestJet’s route network. It looks like Delta is having WestJet cut ties with American as a result of this joint venture.
American and WestJet are officially ending their partnership on July 31, 2018. After that, American flyers will no longer earn miles from flying WestJet. This is a particularly painful development for American as they no longer have any airline partner in Canada. Delta has WestJet and United has Star Alliance partner Air Canada. It’s fascinating to watch these airlines battle it out for dominance.
