American Express Centurion Lounge Coming to Denver
The Platinum Card from American Express comes with tons of perks-like Marriott, Starwood, and Hilton Gold status, Priority Pass lounge access, Delta Sky Club access, and more. I keep it primarily to earn 5x Membership Rewards points per $1 on airfare and to access Amex’s terrific Centurion lounges.
Centurion lounges are almost always better than the standard Delta, United, and American domestic lounges. They have substantive food that I actually want to eat-not just cheese, crackers, and soup *cough United*. American Express has been opening more locations lately to better compete with Chase and Citi. It most recently opened lounges in Hong Kong and Philadelphia and plans on opening another one in New York (JFK) in early 2019.
Public filings have revealed American Express is working on obtaining a 10 year lease from the Denver City Council for a Centurion lounge at Denver International (DEN). The proposed lease is for a 14,650 square foot space and budgets $14 million in capital investment. It would have all the standard suite of Centurion lounge amenities plus offer “Spa & Wellness Services.”
American Express hasn’t confirmed this yet and there’s no official opening date. Regardless, it’s awesome to see Amex building so many lounges. Centurion’s biggest drawback is that there just aren’t enough of them (and they get very busy). This just makes the Platinum Card all the more useful.
