AMEX Offer: 20% OFF Delta Purchases through October 2017
American Express uses a program called Offers to incentivize cardholders to spend money on certain categories. This includes can include things like 20,000 Bonus points after spending $1,000 with an airline, cash back offers like ‘Spend $150+ on airbnb, get $50 back’, etc. Most of these offers are targeted, meaning American Express will offer different deals to different cardholders.
Amex also frequently offers the same deal on multiple cards. You can take advantage of the same offer multiple times if you have multiple targeted credit cards. Note that these offers are not automatically applied to your account. You need to log in to your American Express account, go to each credit card individually, hit the ‘Offers’ tab, and manually activate them. It’s much, much easier than it sounds. The whole process takes about 60 seconds.
American Express just launched a great new targeted offer! Eligible cardholders will receive a $160 statement credit after spending $800 or more on Delta by October 7, 2017. The $800 can be split up in multiple transactions, they just have to be purchased directly with Delta. Eligible flights must originate in the USA. In addition to tickets purchased through Delta, upgrades, seat selection fees, bag fees, and Sky Club memberships also qualify towards the $800 spending requirement.
My American Express Platinum Card was eligible for the offer but my Starwood card wasn’t. $160 off an $800 purchase is effectively a 20% discount, which is great! Ontop of the fantastic discount, remember that you’ll also earn points on the $800 transaction (the $160 is applied as a statement credit). Because my Platinum Card earns 5X points per $1 on airfare, I’ll earn 4,000 points for the Delta purchases!
