Apple Adds Detailed Terminal Maps of Eight More Airports

Article By:

Apple first released airport terminal maps of San Jose International (SJC) and Philadelphia International (PHL) as part of iOS 11. The tech giant has been mapping airport terminals in order to display detailed maps which include things like floor plans, locations of stores, restaurants, gates, lounges, security checkpoints, bathroom etc. Apple just added terminal maps to the following eight airports with its latest iOS update:

  • Oakland (OAK)
  • Miami (MIA)
  • Minneapolis-St. Paul (MSP)
  • Baltimore (BWI)
  • Portland (PDX)
  • Las Vegas (LAS)
  • Chicago O’Hare (ORD)
  • Chicago Midway (MDW)

Here’s a screenshot of part of Miami International airport in the updates Apple Maps app. You can see exactly where every gate, restaurant, shop, lounge, and bathroom is located. You can also tap on each icon to access Yelp information on the location.

This is a hugely beneficial update. One of the most annoying aspects about flying for me is not knowing which restaurants are available in the terminal. Some airports offer maps but most don’t. Now I can just pull out my phone and check. I’ll also know roughly how far away the restaurant is from my terminal. Apple is working on gradually expanding this feature to more airports.
