China is Finally Lifting its Smartphone and Tablet Ban
If you’ve ever flown a Chinese airline, you know that cell phone and tablet use is not allowed on the aircraft, even in airplane mode. This stems from a far outdated Chinese aviation regulation. Not having access to my phone or iPad when I have to fly a Chinese airline is extremely frustrating. It looks like China’s finally catching up to the 21st century!
China’s Civil Aviation Administration has issued new rules allowing individual airlines to decide for themselves whether to allow passengers to use cell phones and tablets in the airplane cabin. Chinese airlines are required to update their policies by the end of 2019. I’d guess every airline will choose to do this since there’s no question it’s extremely customer friendly and costs them nothing. This is a very welcome change and eliminates one of the most frustrating aspects of flying a Chinese carrier.
