Deal: Buy Starpoints for 35% Off through December 2017

Article By:

Starpoints are the rewards currency for Starwood’s loyalty program. SPG points are currently the most valuable reward currency available for several reasons. They’re fairly difficult to come by, they can be transferred to over 30 different airline partners, they can transfer to Marriott at a 1:3 ratio, and Starwood gives you a 25% bonus when you transfer 20,000 points to an airline partner.

Starwood is selling SPG points for 35% off if you buy at least 5,000 points now through December 29, 2017. This brings the cost from $0.35 per point down to $0.2275 per point. You can purchase a maximum of 30,000 SPG points. So if you maxed out this promo it would cost you $682.50 to purchase 30,000 SPG points.

Does it make sense to buy Starpoints at this price? It depends. You can get far more value than 2.2275 cents per point when redeeming Starpoints for international First Class flights. For example, you can transfer 40,000 points to Asiana and book a one-way ticket in Lufthansa First Class between North American and Europe. That ticket normally sells for $8,000+ if you pay cash.

Keep in mind that the usual Starwood purchase restrictions apply. You can purchase a maximum of 30,000 SPG points per year and your account must be active for at least 14 days.
