Delta Introducing Elite Upgrades on All Domestic Delta One Routes
A couple days ago we wrote about how Delta is expanding Delta One service to five additional U.S. domestic routes next year. Unlike domestic First Class, Delta One offers lie-flat seats, Tumi amenity kits, enhanced food offerings, and Sky Club lounge access. The only downside of Delta One is that elite flyers aren’t eligible for complimentary upgrades on those routes. Delta just announced a big change for Medallion members.
Medallion elite members will be eligible for unlimited day of departure complimentary upgrades to Delta One on all domestic routes, including Hawaii, beginning April 1, 2018. The Delta One upgrade process will work the same as it currently does for First Class, except it will start hours before the flight instead of days before the flight. Delta President Glen Hauenstein said:
“While more customers are locking in their preferred experience by purchasing First Class or Delta One, we know how important Complimentary Upgrades are to our Medallion Members. Offering our best product to our most loyal customers as an upgrade further distances SkyMiles from the competition.”
This is a great change for Delta elite flyers and it makes perfect sense. If the airline is going to be flying with empty seats up front, why now just upgrade its most loyal customers?
