Delta is Adding FREE In-Flight Texting Starting this Sunday
Delta will be offering free in-flight texting via iMessage, WhatsApp, and Facebook Messenger starting October 1, 2017! The complimentary service will be available on all Delta aircraft which are equipped with Gogo Wi-Fi. While this is a signifiant portion of their fleet, not every Delta plane has Gogo Wi-Fi yet. Customers can select a new message-only option from the Wi-Fi setup portal to enable free texting. The new service will only allow passengers to send text, not photos or videos. Tim Mapes, Delta’s Senior VP and Chief Marketing Officer said the following:
“We know many of Delta’s customers want or need to stay connected in the air and on the ground, which is why we’re investing in an easy, free way to send and receive messages inflight through some of the most popular global platforms.”
This is a great new feature from Delta. It’s the first of the big three US carriers to offer free in-flight messaging, though smaller airlines like Alaska Air and JetBlue already offer this. Hopefully United and American will match this move.
