First Global Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, Starwood Promotion Announced

Straight to the Point

Earn double points on your first three stays at Starwood, Marriott, and Ritz-Carlton properties between January 16, 2017-April 15, 2017!

Overview

Marriott and Starwood competed their merger earlier this year. Since then, they’ve been working hard to integrate the largest hotel chain in the world and its respective reward programs. You can find my Marriott-Starwood merger overview here. Members can already status match and transfer points between Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, and Starwood.

How the Promotion Works

Today, the hotel chain announced its first ever cross-brand promotion! Guests will earn double points for their first three stays at Marriott, Ritz-Carlton, and Starwood properties. Since Starwood and Marriott/Ritz-Carlton are still two separate reward programs, you can effectively earn the bonus points for three Starwood hotels and three Marriott/Ritz-Carlton hotels. You must register for the promotion between December 15, 2016 and March 15, 2017.

Once you’re registered, you’ll earn the bonus points for stays between January 16, 2017-April 15, 2017. Remember to use your Marriott, Starwood, or Ritz-Carlton credit cards to get even more hotel points for your stays!

Hidden Starwood Promo?

After I registered for the Starwood promo, I was hit with the popup pictured above. This looks to be a targeting bonus, with different bonus amounts being offered to different customers. I was offered 5,000 additional Starpoints after achieving 10 nights, and up to another 5,000 Starpoints for the next 10 nights (500 points per night). You’ll have to try your luck when you register to see what sort of second promotion you’re targeted for.

Final Thoughts

It’s neat to see Marriott making an effort to integrate its three programs by offering an identical global promotion for the first time. Everyone using these reward programs should go ahead and register, that’s a no brainer. My only frustration is that I already have plans to spend about nine nights at Starwood and Marriott properties in early 2017, but my stays are all before the earning period begins on January 16 so I won’t be getting any bonus!
