Flight Review: Air France Business Class 777-200 Boston-Paris
This is a review of Air France’s newer Business Class seats on its Boeing 777-200 aircraft. Air France is still in the process of slowly updating its fleet with these newer seats. You can check out my review of the previous generation Business seats here.
I booked this Business Class award flight using Air France’s Flying Blue frequent flyer program. I transferred 59,500 points from my American Express Membership Rewards account to Flying Blue to book my ticket from Boston to Paris to Ibiza. I paid $200 in taxes and fees with my Platinum Card from American Express to earn 5x MR points per $1.
The cabin is laid out in a 1-2-1 seating configuration, so every passenger has direct aisle access. Each seat came with a pillow, blanket, coat hanger, bottle of water, and headphones. The cushion was comfortable and I had plenty of personal space.
I put most of my small items like headphones, eye mask, book, iPad, etc in this compartment next to the seat. There’s also a USB and a power outlet available under this.
The footwell size was decent-not cramped like Singapore Airlines but not huge like some airlines offer.
Of course, you can recline the seat all the way to 180 degrees to make a flat bed.
While the in-flight entertainment monitors are better than the previous generation models, they’re still too small and look dated. There was a decent selection of movies and shows to watch but it could’ve used a bit more. The system was very responsive to remote control commands.
Amenities & Wi-Fi
The amenity kit has the standard goodies-things like a toothbrush, mouthwash, comb, eye mask, etc. Air France still doesn’t have Wi-Fi on its international aircraft.
Appetizers were seared scallops, prosciutto, and bread. The tray also came out loaded with the cheese and mango mousse cake desserts. I thought it was a bit odd to serve desserts with the meal but I’d guess this is to speed up the dining process so passengers can get more sleep on the overnight flight.
The entrée options were fish, chicken, or ravioli. I went with the chicken with potato gratin. It was an enjoyable meal and the sauce paired nicely with the chicken. It wasn’t the best airplane meal I’ve had in Business Class but it was well above average.
Overall service was good on this flight. The flight attendants were friendly and willing to help whenever needed. One of them offered to take photos of me when she saw I was taking so many pictures. Another one poured me multiple wine samples when I was having trouble deciding what to drink. It makes the flight so much more enjoyable when you have an attentive flight crew.
Here’s my overall rating of the flying experience broken down by category:
In Flight Entertainment- 6.5/10
Departure/Arrival Timeliness- 4/5
Cumulative Ranking: 7.1/10
