Flight Review: Ethiopian Air Business Class 737 Mahe-Addis Ababa
It was time to leave Africa after about a week in the Seychelles. I booked a flight in Ethiopian Airlines Business Class from Mahe to Addis Ababa and continuing onwards to Europe. You can find my review of Ethiopian’s long haul Business Class flight from Milan to Addis Ababa here.
I booked my Business Class award flight from Mahe-Addis-Milan using 55,000 United frequent flyer miles. As a reminder, you can instantly transfer points from Chase Ultimate Rewards to United.
There were four rows of Business Class seats in a 2-2 configuration. They were decently comfortable but are clearly outdated and in need of a refurbishment. Each seat came with headphones, a pillow, a blanket, and a bottle of water.
There were a few basic controls to adjust the seat as well. These weren’t electronic adjustments. You hit the lumbar button and then push back in the chair to make it go back, same with the recline, etc. Also note these aren’t lie-flat seats. They just recline.
In Flight Entertainment
The aircraft had a few communal TV screens playing what I believe is a DreamWorks cartoon. The flight was clocked at 3 hours 50 minutes so I didn’t really care that there were no personal screens.
Amenities & Wi-Fi
There was no amenity kit and no Wi-Fi. I wouldn’t expect an amenity kit on such a short flight but no Wi-Fi was annoying.
The flight started out with departure beverages. The options were juice, water, or sparkling wine.
Lunch appetizers were sliced chicken breast and a small salad.
The entrée options were chicken with rice and vegetables, beef with okra and potatoes, or fusilli with meat sauce. I had the chicken. It was surprisingly very good! The sauce was excellent. I passed on dessert but we were offered cherry pie, cheese, and fruit.
Service was fine overall. It was nothing memorable one way or another.
