Hotel Review: Hilton DoubleTree Morrison in Dublin
I predominantly stick with Starwood for my hotel stays. They treat their elites well, for the most part, and I just love SPG points. However, all the Starwood hotels in Dublin just seemed outrageously expensive for the two nights I was visiting. I ended up booking at the Morrison DoubleTree by Hilton instead as it was about half the price.
There was no one in line when I arrived to check-in so I was helped right away. Everything went smoothly and efficiently. I ended up staying in room 120.
I did have a pleasant surprise during check-in though. The agent gave my companion and myself two warm chocolate chip cookies about half way through the process. They tasted awesome! Why don’t more hotels do this? It instantly cheers you up when you’ve been on the road all day.
Here what the rest of the lobby looked like. The hotel was going for a hip and modern vibe with lots of purple and pink colors.
I booked the standard twin guest room for this trip and didn’t receive any room upgrade when I checked in.
The room had a very modern feel to it.
There was complimentary coffee and tea available.
The bathroom was pretty standard.
There’s a few dining locations on property. I ate at the Morrison Grill shortly after check-in. They served typical American fare. I had 250g steak which tasted great but was cooked more than I’d like. The same venue also hosts “Fancy Pants Tea” between 12:00-6:00 PM. It’s the hotel’s version of hyped up Irish tea time.
I had breakfast at the Halo restaurant in the mornings. This is free for Hilton elite members. There was a decent buffet spread along with a menu to order from. Both options are included in the free breakfast amenity and are also inclusive if you pay cash.
Cold buffet items
Irish breakfast spread-scrambled eggs, sausages, beans, grilled tomatoes, potatoes, etc.
Overall the breakfast was fine. The food was nothing special-just standard hotel food. However, the service was excellent. Waiters came by several times to check if I needed anything and they were always prompt with my requests.
The Hilton had the standard lame hotel gym. It’s about what I expected.
The room had two small bottles of water which were replaced every day as we used them. We also found this jar of gummies when we returned to the room the first night. The Wi-Fi was great. It was easy to connect and fast. The room also had plenty of power outlets. I don’t recall seeing any USB ports though. Make sure to bring your UK power adapters!
