Hotel Review: Westin Miyako Kyoto
After a few days exploring Osaka, we took the quick train into Kyoto and checked into the Westin.
I booked the hotel online through Starwood. The price wasn’t too expensive when I stayed and I was splitting it with someone so we decided to pay cash. I paid with my Starwood American Express which now earns 6x Marriott points per $1 on Marriott and Starwood spending.
Check-in was a little awkward as it seems to be in Japan. The agent spoke broken English, but we were able to communicate. There was no mention of my SPG status (which they’re supposed to bring up) and no room upgrades were available.
I stayed in a Superior Room with two double beds (room number 9005). It was a typically sized room and comfortable enough. Like a lot of older hotels, there weren’t enough power outlets available and we had to unplug a host of items to charge our electronics.
The bathroom had a tub and one sink.
The toilet (with a door) is on the left and the shower (with a door) is on the right.
There was a decent buffet selection offering both Western and Japanese dishes. This is a necessity in Japan since I imagine not many tourists want to eat fish in the morning.
Be sure to clarify if you want your omelet well done. The standard in Japan is a little runny.
This Westin has a standard lame hotel gym. I forgot to take photos again. It’s nothing impressive but good enough for a mild workout.
SPA & Pool
There’s a large indoor pool adjacent to the gym which is great for swimming laps.
The room came with tea, coffee, and a couple bottles of water. I also received complimentary Wi-Fi because of my SPG Platinum status.
Service was good overall. The concierge spoke great English and was very helpful with my questions. We got great recommendations base on what I wanted to do around Kyoto. The staff were all generally friendly and attentive.
