How to Book Cathay Pacific First Class Using Alaska Airlines Miles

Article By:

There’s three main ways to book Cathay Pacific First Class award tickets. You can book them with American Airlines miles, Alaska Airlines miles, or Cathay Pacific miles. You can find my guide to booking with AA miles here. The main advantage of booking through American is that it’s relatively easy to acquire AA miles. But if you’re looking for a fantastic redemption, it costs just 70,000 Alaska miles to book Cathay Pacific First Class.

Calculate How Many Miles You Need

Alaska Airlines MileagePlan has different award charts for different airline partners. You can find all their partner award charts here. MileagePlan currently offers the best miles redemption for Cathay Pacific First Class. Travel from North America-Asia, Middle East, Africa, and India all cost 70,000 miles one-way. Travel from North America-Australia and New Zealand costs 80,000 miles one-way.

Alaska also allows members to book stopovers at no additional cost. For example, passengers can book a one-way First Class ticket from North American to Australia with a weeklong stopover in Asia-all for just 80,000 miles! The only restriction is that you can only have one Alaska partner per award booking.

Find Award Space

Cathay Pacific award flights don’t show up on Alaska Airline’s website. Instead, you’ll have to look up partner awards through British Airways. Make a free British Airways Executive Club account (that’s the BA frequent flyer program) and search for award flights through British’s website. Navigate to the “Executive Club” tab, hit “Spending Avios”, hit “Book a Reward Flight”, and search your desired route and date. If you find Cathay Pacific award space through British, it should be bookable with Alaska miles.

Book the Award Ticket

Once you find award space, call up Alaska Airlines and book it over the phone (it can’t be booked online).

Earn Alaska MileagePlan Miles

There’s several ways to earn Alaska miles. Alaska offers two credit card through Bank of America-the Visa Signature Card and the Visa Business Card. Each card comes with a 30,000 mile sign-up bonus.
