Kenya Air Launching Direct Flights to the United States this Fall

Article By:

SkyTeam member Kenya Airways is launching direct flights from New York (JFK)-Nairobi, Kenya in late October 2018. This will be the airline’s first direct flight to the United States. Kenya Air plans on using a Boeing 787-8 equipped with 30 lie-flat Business Class seats and 204 Economy Class seats. Travelers can already book flights via the following schedule:

  • KQ002 departing Nairobi at 11:25 PM, arriving in New York at 6:25 AM the following day
  • KQ002 departing New York at 12:25 PM, arriving in Nairobi at 10:55 AM the following day

The flight is scheduled to take about 15 hours in each direction, so try and book yourself a Business Class seat. The best way to book Kenya Air awards is with Air France/KLM Flying Blue miles. One-way awards cost 40,000 miles in Economy Class or 100,000 miles in Business Class (+about $300 in fees).

Luckily, it’s fairly easy to accrue Flying Blue miles. You can transfer points from Chase Ultimate Rewards, Citi ThankYou, SPG, and American Express Membership Rewards. It’s definitely a convenient way to get to Kenya!
