Lufthansa Reveals New Business Class Seats Coming in 2020
Lufthansa has a gorgeous First Class product, but its Business Class is falling behind the competition at this point. Lufthansa’s Business Class is still laid out in a 2-2-2 configuration at a time when nearly every major airline is transitioning to 1-2-1 seating with direct aisle access at every seat. Lufthansa shines when it comes to service, but the hard product needs to be updated. We reported back in March that Lufthansa would begin introducing new Business Class seats in 2020. We finally have a first look at what this will look like.
Care for a sneak preview? Here's a rendering of our new business class seat. More privacy & the best sleep! Every seat has aisle access, a special shoulder zone for side sleepers, and larger monitors. Comes 2020 with the @Boeing #777-9! #dreamscometrue pic.twitter.com/VsV9dW0XfA

Lufthansa released two renderings of the product on twitter this morning. The new seats offer a bit more privacy than the current generation thanks to those side panels, they come with larger monitors, and offer a “special shoulder zone for side sleepers.”
Every seat has direct aisle access. Most interestingly, the seating alternates between a 1-2-1 and a 1-1-1 configuration. The middle seats in the 1-1-1 rows look massive with those two armrests.
Although the new cabins are a vast improvement over Lufthansa’s current Business Class, I’m a bit disappointed. There’s really nothing special about these seats, they just match what the airline industry is already offering. They look perfectly fine, but there’s no wow factor like Qatar’s new Qsuite, which allows you to convert the middle seats into a double bed or a four person ‘living room’, and comes with sliding doors for full privacy. Singapore’s new Business Class also lets you convert the middle seats into a double bed and looks more spacious than Lufthansa’s seats.
