Lufthansa’s New Business Class will have Wireless Charging, 7 ft Beds, and more!
Lufthansa gave us a first look of their new Business Class cabin a few day ago. The seats are laid out in an alternating 1-2-1 and 1-1-1 configuration, giving every passenger direct aisle access. The middle seats in the 1-1-1 row look absolutely massive. We didn’t know much else at the time. Lufthansa just announced further enhancements in a press release this morning.
The new Business Class will initially debut on the Boeing 777-9 beginning in 2020. The seats were designed to help passengers sleep. They’re a whopping 7 feet 2 inches long when fully reclined and the back rest is designed to make it possible for your shoulder to sink in. This is supposed to keep your spine straight as you sleep.
Passengers can choose seats with an “extended-length bed” or a seat with “twice as much desk space.” Does this mean the middle seats in the 1-1-1 row are not as long as the other seats? Lufthansa is also increasing the technology in its seats. Passengers can control all the seat functions and the in-flight entertainment system with their mobile devices, and each seat will offer wireless smartphone and tablet charging!
Lufthansa is making improvements to its Business Class service well before the new seats launch. The airline will begin providing mattress pads, sleeping sweaters, pajamas, and new blankets on long-haul flights starting in early 2018.
Lufthansa is my preferred international airline, so it’s great to see they’re making all these improvements to Business Class. Wireless charging sounds particularly cool. I hope they improve their food offerings as well, especially their breakfast spread.
