Marriott Replacing Plastic Soap Bottles with Wall Dispensers
Marriott is replacing individual shower gel, shampoo, and conditioner bottles with wall mounted dispensers. The change is coming to all 450 Marriott managed hotels in North America but remains optional for franchise properties.
The hotel chain is billing this as an environmentally friendly policy. Marriott expects the wall mounted dispensers to save an average of 250 lbs. of plastic per year for each 140-room hotel (the equivalent of 23,000 plastic bottles). This should also save hotel owners $1,000-$2,000 per year in plastic bottle expenses.
It great that this saves plastic and all, but let’s be real. This is a way for Marriott to cut costs. Marriott expects to save between $450,000-$900,000 annually based on its own projections. Wall mounted dispensers come across as cheap and less sanitary than the individual bottles to me. What do you think of this change?
