Straight to the Point

United, American, and Alaska Airlines are temporarily offering up to 1,000 bonus miles for using their shopping portals.

Overview

The holiday shopping season is still in full gear and retailers are trying to outcompete each other to attract customers. We’ve seen increased shopping portal bonuses over the holidays for a while now. Three major airlines, United, American, and Alaska are all offering 500 or 1,000 bonus points for New Year’s during a limited time. These bonus points are in addition to the normal bonus points you earn for buying through a shopping portal.

United Airlines

Go to the United Shopping Portal and click through to your preferred retailer as you normally would. You’ll earn 500 bonus miles after spending $150+ or 1,000 bonus miles after spending $300+. This offer is valid between December 26, 2016-January 6, 2017.

American Airlines

Go to the American Airlines Shopping Portal and click through to your preferred retailer as you normally would. You’ll earn the same 500 bonus miles after spending $150+ or 1,000 bonus miles after spending $300+. This offer is valid between December 26, 2016-January 3, 2017.

Alaska Mileage Plan

Go to the Alaska Mileage Plan Shopping Portal and click through to your preferred retailer as you normally would. You’ll earn the same 500 bonus miles after spending $150+ or 1,000 bonus miles after spending $300+. This offer is valid between December 26, 2016-January 8, 2017.

Final Thoughts

These bonuses aren’t enough to get me to spend money that I normally wouldn’t. However, if I’m planning on buying something anyway I might as well go through these portals to get some free points! While all three New Year’s bonuses are the same, the actual retailer specific bonuses can be different. For example, if I’m buying products from Nike, United will give me 15 miles per dollar for using their shopping portal, American will give me 5 miles per dollar for using their shopping portal, and Alaska will give me 4 miles per dollar for using their shopping portal. Remember, these bonuses are in addition to the special New Year’s bonus described above. Given those numbers, I’d probably go through the United portal to get 15 miles per dollar on my purchase and 500 bonus miles if I spend $150+ or 1,000 bonus miles if I spend $300+. I always use Cash Back Monitor to compare shopping portal bonuses.
