Qatar Airways Decides Not to Invest in American Airlines
Back in June, we reported that Qatar Airways was considering purchasing a 10% stake in rival American Airlines. It’s no secret that American, United, and Delta despise their Middle-Eastern rival airlines (Qatar, Emirates, and Etihad). American’s CEO was adamant about not allowing Qatar to invest in the airline. Well, Qatar ended up changing its mind and released the following statement this morning:
“Further review of the proposed financial investment, taking into account the latest public disclosure of American Airlines, has demonstrated that the investment no longer meets our objectives.”
I was looking forward to Qatar playing a role in shaping the future of one of the legacy US carriers. It was recently named the world’s best airline in 2017. Service on Qatar is consistently excellent, whereas service on American is consistently…let’s say less than excellent.
