Raffi’s Place: My Favorite Persian Restaurant in the USA
I love good Middle-Eastern food. It’s one of my favorite types of cuisine out there. The key phrase here is that it must be good. There’s countless fast food, quick service, and table service establishments that serve mediocre Middle-Eastern food that I’m just not fond of. It’s very difficult to find authentic and quality Middle Eastern restaurants in the US, so I get very excited when I find one!
Raffi’s Place is one such excellent Persian restaurant located in Glendale, California. It’s been in business since it opened in 1993 and it’s packed every time I go there. You should expect to wait at least half an hour if you decide to go for dinner, and they only take reservations for parties of ten or more. After getting off my American Airlines First Class flight from Boston-Los Angeles last month, I rented a car and drove to Raffi’s for dinner.
The front of the restaurant facing the street is quite deceptive and it’s easy to miss if you don’t know what you’re look for. There’s ample parking nearby and the restaurant also offers valet parking. The valet is located behind the restaurant. There’s a small alley to the right of this picture that takes you to the back to valet your car.
The entrance to Raffi’s is located right next to the valet stand behind the restaurant. Again, this can be a bit tricky to find if you don’t know what you’re looking for. You’ll see an open archway full of blooming flowers to guide you inside.
The restaurant offers a great setting to eat with family and friends. Here’s some of the food we ordered:
Everything I’ve had at Raffi’s Place has been consistently excellent. You can tell they only use high quality meats and vegetables in their cooking and blend everything with fresh spices to add flavor. The number one thing I’d recommend is to try the cherry rice. All the meals come with standard Persian rice but you can choose to get cherry rice instead. It adds a unique, slightly sweet, flavor to the rice that pairs well with the saltier meats. As someone who lives on the East Coasts, there’s two restaurants I want to visit every time I’m in Los Angeles: In-N-Out (I know it’s cliché but they really do serve excellent fast food burgers) and Raffi’s Place.
