Saying Farewell to Virgin America

Article By:

Alaska Airlines has been steadily merging the Virgin America brand under its banner since it first acquired the company at the end of 2016. Virgin America’s frequent flyer program ended on January 1, 2018, and the brand is set to be phased out in 2019. I’ve only flown Virgin America one time-from Honolulu (HNL) to Los Angeles (LAX) in July 2017.

I realize one flight isn’t enough of a sample size to reach any definitive conclusion, but I thoroughly enjoyed my flight. The seats were comfortable, the flight attendants were remarkably pleasant, and the purple mood lighting was an awesome and unique touch. I also loved ordering a meal from the in-flight entertainment system and having a flight attendant bring it shortly afterwards without ever having to awkwardly call someone to ask for food.

I can understand why the airline had a loyal fan base, and I respect Richard Branson for building a customer-focused airline in the United States. Molly Choma is a flight attendant and photographer who’s been working at Virgin America for the past nine years. She created the following farewell video highlighting the flight attendants working for the airline. I wish I had taken more Virgin America flights while I had the chance 🙂
