Singapore Now has the Most Powerful Passport in the World
Passport Index is service that tracks the entry requirements of every passport in the world. Many people think the U.S. passport is the most powerful passport in the world. Now of course, ‘powerful’ is a very subjective term. But one of the most important things travelers look at is how easy it is to enter a country. You might be surprised to learn that Singapore just made Passport Index’s list as the most powerful passport in the world.
The ranking is based on how many countries allow visa-free access to passport holders. Singapore barely edged out Germany for the #1 spot, coming in with 159 countries allowing visa-free entry to the south Asian country. Singapore is the first Asian country to achieve this ranking.
I’m sure you’re wondering where the United States ranks on this list. The U.S. ties Malaysia, Ireland, and Canada for the sixth most powerful passport in the world. 154 countries offer visa-free entry to American. Rounding off the bottom of the list is Afghanistan. Only 22 countries allow the visa-free access to citizens of the middle-eastern country. It’s interesting that even the isolated North Korea ranks above Afghanistan!
