Starwood Reducing Earning Rate for Uber Rides
Straight to the Point
Starwood is reducing the number of bonus Starpoints it gives members for their spending on Uber rides.
One of the most convenient features of Starwood’s SPG program is the ability to seamlessly earn Starpoints for every Uber ride you take, while earning even more Starpoints for using Uber while staying at a Starwood property. You can go to SPG.com/Uber to link your accounts and start earning those extra points right away. As happens from time to time, Starwood has recently announced that it’s reducing the Starpoint earning rate for those Uber rides starting February 1.
Here’s the new point earning structure:
- During a Starwood property stay-All SPG members will earn two Starpoints per $1 USD spent on Uber rides.
- Every Day-All SPG members will earn one Starpoint per $2 USD spent on Uber rides.
This is quite a sizable devaluation. Right now, Starwood’s most elite members earn up to four Starpoints per $1 USD spent during Starwood stays and all members currently earn one Starpoint per $1 USD on everyday Uber rides.
In conjunction with this devaluation, Starwood is also launching a month-long promotion in February. SPG members will earn 5 Starpoints per $1 USD spent on Uber rides while staying at a Starwood property. You don’t have to sign up for the promo like you usually do with Starwood. It’s automatic as long as your SPG and Uber accounts are linked.
Point devaluations are always disappointing and this is clearly a negative change. But, Starwood is still throwing free bonus points at you just for using Uber so I’m not too concerned.
