The Basics of Delta Elite Status

Article By:

As much as we complain about airlines, frequent flyers get a lot of benefits from being loyal to one airline. I do most of my domestic flying on United and get a lot of perks from to my United elite status. I’m thinking about switching to Delta in 2018 and want to go over Delta’s SkyMiles frequent flyer program benefits.

Delta has four official tiers of elite status-Silver, Gold, Platinum, and Diamond. In order to qualify for elite status, you have to actually fly. There are credit cards which offer shortcuts to status, but you still need to fly. I’ll go over the qualification requirements in a separate article. I just want to take a look at the benefits of Delta status here.

There’s a lot of benefits to being a frequent flyer. While Delta’s program shares similarities with United and American, there are some notable differences. For example, rollover medallion qualifying miles allows you to apply any MQM eared in excess of your current elite status to next year’s MQM counter. Additionally, Platinum and Diamond elites get to pick from a number of choice benefits.

It’s worth pointing out that Delta Gold Status and above gets you SkyTeam Elite Plus status. This lets you access SkyTeam partner lounges, expedited security lines, and priority boarding regardless of what class you’re flying!
