United is Selling Priority Boarding for $9
United airlines is now selling Priority Group 2 boarding as an optional ticket add-on on select flights. Passengers with an Economy Class ticket (not Basic Economy) can pay $9 for Priority boarding. The option won’t be available on every flight. United decides which flights to sell it on based on “flight, date, time of day, and day of week restrictions.”
I’m all for giving customers more choice. There’s times when it’s definitely important to board early to have access to overhead bin space. But I worry about having even more passengers in the Group 2 boarding zone.
If you’ve ever flown United, you know that Group 2 consistently turns into a massive line of people. The following passengers already have access to Group 2 boarding-United Silver & Gold passengers, Star Alliance Silver & Gold passengers, and United Explorer & Club cardholders. I don’t welcome the idea of even more flyers lining up in Group 2 since it’s already overcrowded.
