United Launching Nearly 18 Hour Houston-Sydney Flights
United is launching daily nonstop flights from Houston (IAH) to Sydney (SYD) starting January 18, 2018. This will be United’s second longest flight at a painful 8,596 miles lasting 17 hours 30 minutes. These flights will be operated by United’s Boeing 787-9 aircraft featuring 48 Business Class seats, 63 Economy Plus seats, and 141 Economy seats.
United already operates flights from Los Angeles and San Francisco to Sydney, so this will be the airline’s third US route to Australia’s capital. While it’s nice to see another route to Sydney, this is a painfully long flight to take on an airline known for poor customer service.
I couldn’t image 17 and a half hours in United Economy, and I don’t think it would be much better in United’s aging Business Class cabin either. This jet won’t feature the new Polaris Business Class seats, it’ll have the old 2-2-2 seating configuration. Would you fly nearly 18 hours with United?
