Virgin Australia Installing Free Gogo Wi-Fi on US Flights
Australian Business Traveler is reporting that Virgin Australia will offer free Wi-Fi on select flights between Los Angeles (LAX)-Sydney (SYD), Melbourne (MEL), and Brisbane (BNE) beginning December 2017. Only two of the Boeing 777s operating these routes will have Wi-Fi next month, and they’ll be switching between the three routes. All five 777s operating across the Pacific will have full Wi-Fi coverage by March 2018
The free Gogo 2Ku Wi-Fi will be offered on a temporary basis to make sure its working properly. Virgin will eventually begin charging a fee to access the network. The airline will also have Wi-Fi across most of its domestic Boeing 737 fleet by the end of 2018. Its international A330s are expected to get Wi-Fi by the end of 2019.
United, American, and Delta all operate these routes and already offer Wi-Fi, so it’s nice to see Virgin catching up to the competition. Qantas, Australia’s largest airline, is installing Wi-Fi on its domestic jets before moving on to its international fleet.
