Chase Freedom Unlimited Offering 3x Points on All Bonuses

Article By:

The Chase Freedom Unlimited is one of the best travel cards for non-bonus category spending. While it’s marketed as a cash-back card, it’s far more valuable if you also have another Chase card which earns Ultimate Rewards points. Some examples of Ultimate Rewards earning cards include the Chase Sapphire ReserveChase Sapphire Preferred, and Ink Business Preferred.

As long as you have the Freedom Unlimited and one of those Ultimate Rewards earning cards, you can convert the Freedom Unlimited points to Ultimate Rewards points at a 1:1 ratio. This is important because Freedom Unlimited points can only be used for statement credits whereas Ultimate Rewards points can be transferred to airlines and used to book things like Singapore Airlines Business Class or Aer Lingus Business Class.

The Chase Freedom Unlimited normally comes with a 15,000 point sign-up bonus after spending $500 in the first three months of account opening and earns a flat 1.5x points per $1 on all spending. Chase is now offering a second sign-up bonus offer. Instead of getting 15,000 bonus points, you earn 3x points per $1 on all spending for the first year of account opening. Also keep in mind that this card has no annual fee.

This presents a huge opportunity for big spenders to earn tons of Ultimate Rewards points. The old bonus (15,000 points) is better if you spend less than $10,000 a year (10,000 x 1.5+15,000=30,000). If you spend over $10,000, the new bonus can be astronomical.
