Wyndham is Acquiring La Quinta for $1.95 Billion
Wyndham Worldwide announced its acquisition of the La Quinta hotel chain this morning. Wyndham will pay $1.95 billion in cash to acquire La Quinta’s franchise and management business in the second quarter of 2018.
Wyndham is currently the world’s largest hotel property owner, but not the world’s largest hotel company when measured in number of rooms. Marriott holds that title after its merger with Starwood. Wyndham is gaining 900 managed and franchised hotels through this deal. It’ll now operate 21 brands spread across 9,000 hotels in 75 countries.
La Quinta’s Returns loyalty program and its 13 million members will be combined with the Wyndham Rewards loyalty program. We don’t have any additional details on how this will be carried out. La Quinta brings a mid-upscale brand to Wyndham’s portfolio, which is currently made up of mostly low-end brands.
